There are plenty if gap fillers available in English ,a brief list of mostly used words are given above. Generally the gap fillers don't affect the meaning of the sentences . But it makes the sentences more human/more close to the heart .

let's see some in action :

Q :Do you hate villages....?

A: Living in a city is better always for me, in fact I grew up in a village . [ Note ,you can ignore the phrase "in fact" though that doesn't affect the meaning of the sentence .but when you add it ,the sentence sounds like more good. I guess you understood it perfectly .! ]

Q : Then do you say ,that government should change the education system ?

A: Well...There are many theories about the best and suitable education system for our country.....Actually the second one we discussed earlier seems to be the best. However ,we have to take many other factors in to account .

Some fillers help to start. some help to connect (conjunction )some help to conclude .

Gap fillers like  "hmm" ,"er" ,"um"  are used to keep the conversation going on. Ignore the fillers like this when you face the IELTS speaking test and other  international English examinations as the use of them indicates you are weak on the subject you talk .
