Should I have a lot of creativity to score more in IELTS ?

Obviously not. You need just  a bit.:)

If you think that you  need it a lot ,then only some cinema directors,creative writers,poets can get through the IELTS exam .But that is not the case.

Language is not all about science and scientific methods  ,it is an art . Art has lot of connectivity with your thought process ,inner mind ,imagination and creativity . So you can't just memorize everything like memorizing formulas for maths and science .

Many of my students ,specially medical doctors ,used to ask me "Sir if you say us to write a medical reference letter ,or something related to our work ,we would write perfectly ,but you ask us to write things that  we have never come across in our life "

To have an interesting conversation with anyone ,you need a bit of creativity . For instance , Imagine you   had an ice cream at a new shop in the morning and it was very tasty . Really you felt very good about that food .

Now you want to tell it to your friends : You may say it in many ways :


1) I had an ice cream at that shop,wow  ! , it was amazing  ! What a great treat it was !
2) Hey you might have never had an ice cream like,that shop sells ,it was extremely good !
3) I had an ice cream at that shop. it was good.

The third one is just a very basic statement ,that lacks lot of emotions ,so seems robotic . To  make beautiful ,touching ,meaningful close to heart statements you need some extra words,phrases so cook up your story beautifully .

Keep in mind ,when you face IELTS speaking test you have to have a creative mindset ,you have to add interesting words ,expand the story ,use fillers to sound nice ,then only you can go above 6.0 band score .

How to have more creativity : (Don't panic ,more means better than the present one ) : Watch films ,read stories ,novels listen to music-specially verses ,observe others talking ,when you feel it is interesting . [This post is not for the people who are very creative naturally , over 60% people are good in that ,but because of education system of  many countries ,well educated people often  lack in creative thinking .This post provides suggestions for them ]

 Writing and Speaking parts of IELTS test need  some imagination skills  indeed. Go for it !
